Yesterday I flew from Cartagena to Medellin. It is such a big city although so far I’ve only seen it at night. Looking forward to exploring it tomorrow.
Tonight I’m sleeping in a real bed with pillows and sheets and everything. The window is open and it’s a little bit chilly outside. I’m laying here feeling the cool air coming into my room and I’m not concerned about mosquitos at all. Tomorrow I think I’m taking a hot shower. It’s been several months since I’ve had one of those and a month or so since I’ve slept on a real bed. And I don’t remember the last time I wasn’t too hot to sleep indoors without AC.
This is the first time I haven’t worried about mosquitos since South Africa or maybe Namibia. If you don’t remember I got dingue fever coming out of Brazil.
The City of Medellin reminds me of LA but different. It’s big like LA but it’s rustic and raw everywhere. It’s big like LA but it’s more primitive. I’m in an Airbnb with a very nice girl and her mom. The girl is the one who does the Airbnb but her mom lives here too. The apartment rents for 250 per month. I’m paying 10 bucks per night to stay here. I may switch to a nicer place downtown. This is so far away from downtown but we are in a high rise apartment building. 20 stories high and the apartment buildings are all around us and it sits on the foothills of the mountains. The internet isn’t too hot. That’s because they don’t pay very much for their Internet since they don’t depend on it.
The taxi driver here was in his 60s or 70s and drove like Mario Andretti but his taxi was probably the least powerful taxi I’ve driven in since I’ve arrived in Colombia. I thought I was going to have to get out a few times and push.
Tonight I had a huge chorizo for dinner. The chorizos here are a lot tastier than the ones I’ve had in Mexico. I also has an empanada that was probably one of the best things I’ve put in my mouth in a while.
I’m really enjoying my stay here.

I bet it feels wonderful to sleep with “a bit of a nip in the air” for a change. And NO mosquitoes!!! Hot showers, clean sheets, isn’t it amazing how extravagant some typically basic comforts can feel? As always, I love following along with your adventures. Take care, Elaine

Strange how they build high rises right on the edge of lush vegetation! Nice images.
